Islamabad: Pakistan’s top military leadership reviewed the country’s security environment and reaffirmed a zero-tolerance approach to militancy as the 273rd Corps Commanders’ Conference convened under the chairmanship of Army Chief and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, according to ISPR.

Opening the conference, the forum offered prayers for soldiers, law enforcement personnel and civilians who lost their lives in recent militant attacks. It paid tribute to those who, it said, sacrificed their lives defending the country against terrorism promoted at the behest of foreign elements.

Focus on counterterrorism operations

Field Marshal Munir praised the armed forces for their resolve, professionalism and sacrifices. He also commended intelligence-based counterterrorism operations conducted nationwide in recent months, saying they reflected sustained commitment by Pakistan’s security forces.

In remarks to commanders, Munir said coordinated efforts by the government and the military, combined with the steadfast support of the public, were gradually but surely steering the country toward stability, broader opportunity and national dignity.

Assessment of internal and external security

The forum carried out a comprehensive review of internal and external security challenges. It examined emerging threats and emphasized maintaining high levels of operational readiness.

Participants reiterated that all terrorists, their facilitators and abettors operating under what the military described as Indian patronage would be dealt with decisively and without exception.

At the same time, the forum rejected any nexus between terrorism, crime and political interests. It said no individual or group would be allowed to undermine national unity, security or stability, regardless of political affiliation.

Civil-military cohesion and development focus

The commanders stressed that they would not tolerate any attempt to create divisions between the armed forces and the Pakistani people.

Turning to development-linked security, the forum welcomed special initiatives by the Balochistan government aimed at empowering local communities and addressing governance-related drivers of militancy through social engagement.

Participants called for similar public-focused measures in other parts of the country in line with the National Action Plan to ensure sustainable peace and stability.

Regional and international positions

The conference reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and their struggle, which it described as legitimate.

It also endorsed Pakistan’s principled stance on the Palestinian issue. The participants called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, unhindered humanitarian access, and a credible pathway toward the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Operational readiness and future challenges

Concluding the conference, Field Marshal Munir directed commanders to uphold the highest standards of operational preparedness, discipline, training, physical fitness and battlefield professionalism, while embracing innovation.

He expressed full confidence in the Pakistan Army’s ability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity and to counter a full spectrum of threats, ranging from conventional and sub-conventional challenges to hybrid and asymmetric warfare.
