Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has arrived in Tehran to attend the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Upon his arrival, he was received by Iran’s Interior Minister and other senior officials. Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, was also present at the airport.
According to Iranian media, mourners are paying their final respects to the late Supreme Leader at the Imam Khomeini Hussainiya in Tehran. Delegations from around the world are arriving one by one to offer condolences and pay tribute. The coffins of several of Ali Khamenei’s family members have also been placed alongside his casket.
It is worth recalling that in the February 28 attack, Ali Khamenei’s wife, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and two-year-old granddaughter were also killed. Their coffins have been placed on the stage beside Ali Khamenei’s casket.
Besides, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also departed for Iran on a one-day official visit. He is accompanied by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The delegation will attend the funeral prayers of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, National Assembly Speaker, and several federal ministers are also part of the delegation. During the visit, the Prime Minister will convey Pakistan’s condolences to the Iranian leadership and people. He is also scheduled to hold meetings with Iran’s leadership.
Meanwhile, a separate Pakistani delegation led by Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani has already arrived in Tehran to participate in the funeral and burial ceremonies of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
