Web desk: TikTok users were left shocked after it emerged that a well-known influencer, who went by the name Yasmin, was not who people thought she was.
The truth came out after police received complaints about the Egyptian TikToker’s dance clips. Officers called Yasmin in for questioning, and during the probe, they discovered the person behind the account was in fact an 18-year-old student named Abdul Rahman.
He later admitted openly, saying “I created this account only to increase followers and earn money.”
Abdul Rahman, who comes from a village and lives with his divorced mother, was described by neighbours as a quiet and ordinary boy studying at the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management.
One neighbour expressed shock, saying, “We are in shock. What we saw as a normal young boy was fooling the world by becoming a girl.”
Police arrested him and produced him in court, where he was initially placed on a four-day remand. He was later granted bail for 5,000 Egyptian pounds, around $105.
An Interior Ministry spokesman confirmed the charges, stating, “Abdul Rahman has been charged with impersonating a woman and publishing immoral content.”
The case has stirred debate in Egypt, where authorities have been tightening their grip on social media activity.
