Colombo: Pakistan team head coach Mike Hesson has stated that Fakhar Zaman will play when required, and Babar Azam understands exactly what the team expects from him.
During a press conference in Colombo, Hesson said that he has full confidence in the players and the team is well prepared. He expressed hope that the team will make the best use of the conditions.
He added that the aim is always to field the best possible combination. Usman Tariq has exceptional skills and can both attack and defend effectively.
The head coach further said that Babar Azam knows what is expected from him and that the team needs the star batter in the middle order. He noted that sending Babar in during the 11th or 12th over against Namibia did not provide much benefit. He also mentioned that Babar’s strike rate in the powerplay is below 100, and the player is aware of this aspect.
Hesson also stated that Fakhar Zaman is part of the squad and will play whenever needed. Spin bowlers are expected to play a more significant role in the current conditions, and the team will decide the best combination accordingly.
He added that Salman Ali Agha was upset when he got out, and there was no further discussion beyond that. After the Asia Cup, Babar was brought back for a specific role.
The coach emphasized that Babar possesses special skills, and there are times when other players may perform that role better
