Web desk: Election Commission issues notice to PTI MPA Dr Amjad Ali over assets discrepancy
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial assembly member Dr Amjad Ali of PK-07 Swat. The notice concerns assets declared beyond his reported income, officials said.
ECP flags discrepancies in asset declaration
According to the notice, Dr Amjad Ali’s 2023-2024 Statement of Assets and Liabilities contains inconsistencies. The ECP said it issued the notice under Article 137 of the Elections Act 2017 and the Election Rules 2017. The action also aligns with constitutional provisions under Pakistan’s 1973 Constitution.
Hearing scheduled for February 3
The ECP has directed Dr Amjad Ali to appear in person or through a legal representative for a hearing on Monday, February 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The hearing will be held at the ECP Secretariat on Constitution Avenue, G-5/2, Islamabad.
Authorities ensure notice delivery
The commission also sent a copy of the notice to the secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly to ensure Dr Amjad receives it. Officials said this step reflects the ECP’s commitment to procedural fairness and transparency.
ECP stresses transparency and accountability
Officials emphasized that the move signals the commission’s seriousness in verifying lawmakers’ income and asset records. The ECP said it is committed to maintaining transparency and enforcing legal requirements across Pakistan’s political framework.
