Experts warn that if their plugs remain in the switchboard despite turning off the TV, phone charger or other electrical appliances, they continue to steal electricity, this hidden energy waste is called “Phantom Energy” or “Vampire Energy”. According to the report, modern smart TVs still consume up to 40 watts of electricity despite being turned off, which is about 40 times more than a normal TV. Similarly, microwave ovens, gaming consoles, laptop chargers, and other devices remain involved in energy consumption even when turned off. Especially devices that are on standby mode or that have a continuous display, clock or Wi-Fi connection, they lose more power. Experts recommend that all electrical appliance plugs should be removed after use to avoid this unnecessary waste of energy and the unnecessary standby mode should be completely turned off. While this process will not immediately make a big difference to the electricity bill, in the long run will not only save energy but also help protect the environment. The steady rise in electricity prices over time and the dangers of climate change are making us realize that energy savings are no longer just a choice but a necessity.
