Pakistan’s passport and immigration system has been upgraded along modern lines, which will eliminate delays in the issuance of passports, while all passport-related matters have now come under direct monitoring. In this regard, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has inaugurated a new digital monitoring system for Passport and Immigration in Islamabad.
Under the new system, every stage of passport applications submitted from within Pakistan and from abroad—including processing, printing, and delivery—can now be monitored on a real-time basis. Moreover, on the instructions of the Interior Minister, the entire procedure for emergency travel documents has also been shifted to a digital platform.
During a briefing, Mohsin Naqvi was informed that a modern monitoring room and call centre at the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports are operating 24 hours a day without interruption, enabling immediate action on citizens’ applications and complaints. The Interior Minister also inspected a system based on advanced hybrid intelligence and data analytics, which will help improve transparency and efficiency in decision-making.
On this occasion, Mohsin Naqvi said that the passport system has been brought in line with the standards of developed countries, while the security features of the Pakistani passport have been aligned with international ICAO standards. He added that passport printing through automated machines has eliminated human intervention, thereby increasing both transparency and speed.
The Interior Minister also visited the e-monitoring room, call center, forensic laboratory, and the modern production unit, and stated that the digital integrated dashboard will enable effective monitoring and evaluation of daily operations and staff performance. He appreciated the performance of the Director General of Immigration and his team for introducing the modern system.
