Web Desk: Anjum Zaman Awan, a core member of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee, has announced his dissociation from the group, accusing some elements within the organization of steering young people toward what he described as a divisive and unlawful agenda.
In a video message released on Sunday, Awan said he was distancing himself from the committee’s activities and urged young people to avoid groups that, in his view, promote anti-state narratives.
“I want to tell the youth that the slogans of separation and autonomy being promoted among them are backed by forces hostile to Pakistan,” Awan said in the recorded message.
He alleged that certain actors were misleading young people and claimed that anti-Pakistan agencies were operating behind the scenes. However, he did not provide evidence to support the allegations.
Awan said the committee’s originally peaceful movement had deviated from its stated objectives.
“Our peaceful movement was redirected in a way that encouraged young people toward law-breaking, which has harmed their future,” he said.
Furthermore, he appealed to young people to return to constructive political engagement and avoid organizations that he claimed carried an anti-Pakistan agenda.
“I completely disassociate myself from the destructive politics of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee,” Awan said.
Awan’s announcement follows the earlier departure of another core member, Amjad Ali Khan Advocate, who had also publicly distanced himself from the banned committee.
The latest development highlights apparent divisions within the organization’s leadership and comes amid ongoing debate over the committee’s activities and political messaging in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Awan’s statement has brought internal disagreements within the group into sharper focus.
According to those observers, Awan rejected narratives directed against Pakistan and the military and chose to separate himself from the committee. The committee has not immediately responded to Awan’s remarks.
