Asim Munir visited Peshawar

Peshawar: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Peshawar on Thursday, engaging directly with tribal elders and reviewing security arrangements along the Pak-Afghan border. The visit underscores Pakistan’s ongoing focus on counterterrorism and border security in the volatile region.

Interactive Session with Tribal Elders

During his visit, the COAS held an interactive session with a Jirga of tribal elders. He praised the tribes for their “steadfast and unconditional support” to Pakistan’s security forces, particularly during the recent standoff with the Afghan Taliban. He also paid tribute to the resilience and sacrifices of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s residents in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

In response, the tribal elders reiterated their full support for Pakistan’s Armed Forces, both against terrorism and the Afghan Taliban, signaling strong local cooperation in maintaining regional security.

Security Briefing at 11 Corps Headquarters

Following the session, COAS Munir received a comprehensive briefing at Headquarters 11 Corps, covering the prevailing security environment, operational preparedness and ongoing counterterrorism efforts along the Pak-Afghan border. Officials highlighted the challenges posed by cross-border militancy, as well as Pakistan’s strategic measures to ensure peace and stability.

COAS Stresses Peace and Counterterrorism

Addressing the elders, the COAS emphasized that Pakistan seeks peace with all neighbors, including Afghanistan, but will not tolerate cross-border terrorism originating from Afghan soil. He noted that despite persistent attacks, Pakistan has exercised patience while extending multiple diplomatic and economic initiatives aimed at improving bilateral relations.

However, he criticized the Afghan Taliban regime for supporting Indian-sponsored terror proxies, Fitna Al Khwarij and Fitna Al Hindustan, instead of taking decisive action against them. He assured the tribal elders that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan as a whole will be cleared of terrorists and their collaborators.

Tribal Elders Pledge Support

The tribal elders appreciated the candid discussion and reiterated their commitment to peace in Pakistan. They emphasized that the ideology promoted by FAK holds no acceptance among the tribes of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reinforcing the region’s collective opposition to extremist groups.

Upon arrival in Peshawar, COAS Munir was received by the Commander Peshawar Corps, reflecting the military’s organized efforts to ensure security during his visit.

This visit highlights Pakistan Army’s continued engagement with local communities to strengthen counterterrorism measures while maintaining stability along the strategic western border.
