Web Desk: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a fine on the Indian cricket team for failing to maintain the required over rate during the second One Day International against South Africa on December 3 in Raipur.

Over Rate Violation and Fine

According to the ICC, India bowled two overs fewer than the scheduled number within the allotted time. Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, teams are fined 5 percent of the match fee for each over short of the required rate. Consequently, the Indian squad was penalized 10 percent of the players’ match fees.

Captain Accepts Responsibility

Indian cricket team captain KL Rahul acknowledged the breach and accepted the fine. The ICC noted that teams are responsible for maintaining the over rate, and penalties are strictly enforced to ensure fair play and timely completion of matches.

Match Outcome

The slow over rate came during a high-scoring match in which South Africa successfully chased India’s total of 359 runs, securing a four-wicket victory. The result underscored the competitive intensity of the series and added context to the ICC’s enforcement of over rate rules.
