Babar Azam fifth ODI duck came at a crucial stage as Pakistan lost early wickets in the second ODI against West Indies on Sunday.

After being put in to bat, Pakistan slipped to 37-2 when Jayden Seales dismissed both Saim Ayub and Babar in the ninth over, leaving captain Mohammad Rizwan to rebuild the innings.

Openers Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique gave Pakistan a steady start, taking the score to 37 without much trouble.

But Seales broke through by getting Saim, on 23 off 31 balls, to edge to slip.

Two balls later, he produced a full delivery that went through Babar’s defence, bowling him for his first duck since August 2023.

It was a sharp reminder of the West Indies’ ability to strike twice in quick succession.

Babar’s previous ODI duck came against Afghanistan, after which he bounced back with two fifties and a match-winning 151 against Nepal in the 2023 Asia Cup.

That knock remains his last international century.

Since then, the former Pakistan captain has played 28 ODI innings, scoring 929 runs at an average of 37.16 and a strike rate of 79.53.

Both below his career averages of 54.62 and 87.78.

Despite recording nine scores of fifty or more in this period, he has been unable to convert any into a hundred, with a highest score of 78.
