Web desk: Oman has announced a 17-member squad for their first-ever Asia Cup appearance, with four uncapped players set for a potential international debut.
As reported by the ICC, the team will be led by experienced opener Jatinder Singh and placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, India and tournament hosts United Arab Emirates.
The new faces in the squad are Sufyan Yousuf, Zikriya Islam, Faisal Shah and Nadeem Khan, none of whom have played international cricket before. Their inclusion marks a noticeable change from the side that featured in last year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies.
Securing qualification for the eight-nation Asia Cup is being seen as a milestone moment for Oman cricket. Head coach Duleep Mendis shared optimism about the challenge ahead, calling it both an opportunity and a learning curve.
“It is a reality that we are competing in the Asia Cup, a major tournament and a significant platform for our players to demonstrate their abilities internationally,” Mendis said.
Mendis further described his team as a mix of young players and experienced campaigners, saying they were determined to play with full commitment against the region’s top teams. He also stressed that the Asia Cup would be a real test of technical skills and mental toughness on an international stage.
