Asia Cup 2025: India announces squad; line-ups of other teams, full schedule inside

Web desk: India has confirmed their 15-member squad for the Asia Cup in the UAE, which starts on September 9. Defending champions India will begin their campaign a day later against the hosts, the UAE, as they look to clinch a record-extending ninth title.

Suryakumar Yadav has been handed the captaincy. While Shubman Gill has been named as the vice-captain. One of the main inclusions is Jasprit Bumrah, who hasn’t played white-ball cricket since the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The fast bowler has only played Test cricket in recent months, having missed the Champions Trophy and other limited-overs fixtures due to injuries and rest. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav is also part of the squad, adding variety to India’s bowling attack.

However, Yashasvi Jaiswal has not made the cut. Instead, selectors have put faith in the younger trio of Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh to strengthen the batting unit.

All three have shown strong performances in recent domestic and international games.

Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube and Axar Patel provide all-round options. While Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma are included as wicketkeeping choices. Pace options include Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, with Varun Chakaravarthy adding mystery spin to the squad.

With less than a month to go before the Asia Cup 2025 begins in the UAE, teams have started naming their squads, while some sides are still finalising their line-ups.

Pakistan were among the first to announce its 17-player squad. Salman Ali Agha will lead the side, which includes key names such as Shaheen Afridi, Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf.

India has also confirmed their squad, with Suryakumar Yadav taking charge as captain and Shubman Gill appointed vice-captain.
