The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been made mandatory in schools across Punjab ,aiming to meet the modern educational needs of the students.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and cabinet members participated in the official workshop titled “Empowering Punjab with AI.” The workshop formally commenced with the attendance of ministers Members of the Punjab cabinet were briefed on the effective use of Gemini and were informed about the role of AI in governance and policy framework development.
Discussions were held on AI support in operational policy making, sectoral reforms, and other administrative matters, including policy summary analysis, summaries, and Google tools.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif declared the use of AI mandatory in Punjab’s schools, and it was decided to establish a Google Tech Valley Digital Transformation Advisory Board in Punjab.
Experts from Google for Education briefed the participants. In Punjab, 3,000 teachers have received master training through the Tech Valley Google for Education platform.
Participants were informed that over 300,000 student IDs have been created in the Punjab School Education Department, while 200,000 students and 2,000 teachers associated with the Punjab Education Foundation have been trained.It was also shared that to promote digital journalism, 1,000 scholarships are being offered for 10 organisations.
The Google team praised Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for declaring 2026 as the Year of Youth, stating that they had never seen a city like Lahore, describing it as a blend of history and culture.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that digital technology can transform thinking and ways of working.
She added that AI support in reforms and policymaking is indispensable, and that the responsible use of AI tools can bring positive change.
