Armed forces destroy Taliban positions across Bajaur sector

Web Desk: Security forces have launched a series of retaliatory strikes along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border in the Bajaur sector, targeting positions used by Afghan Taliban fighters and terrorists linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

According to officials familiar with the operation, Pakistan’s armed forces struck multiple positions across the frontier using guided munitions and other precision weapons as part of an ongoing campaign named Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq.

Security sources said the operation aims to dismantle terrorist infrastructure that Islamabad believes is being used to stage attacks inside Pakistan.

Forces destroyed several Taliban’s posts situated across the border near Bajaur district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The targets, they said, included positions used by Afghan Taliban fighters and terrorists described by authorities as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” a term the government frequently uses for factions of the TTP.

Security officials added that guided missiles were used during the strikes to hit fortified positions near the mountainous frontier.

They said the operation would continue until military objectives are achieved.

The latest strikes come amid a sharp escalation in tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government, with both sides trading accusations over cross-border terrorist activity.

Islamabad has repeatedly accused militants operating from Afghan territory of launching attacks against Pakistani security forces and civilians. Afghan authorities, however, have often rejected those claims and called for dialogue to resolve border disputes.

Violence along the frontier has increased in recent months, particularly in areas adjoining Pakistan’s former tribal districts, where terrorists have intensified assaults on security checkpoints and military convoys.

The Bajaur operation follows several incidents that have strained relations between the two neighbours.

Earlier this month, Pakistani forces said they intercepted drones near the northwestern city of Kohat that were launched from across the border. Authorities said the devices were neutralised using electronic countermeasures before they could cause major damage.

Separately, Pakistani officials reported air and artillery strikes targeting suspected terrorist hideouts near the frontier in response to cross-border attacks.

The rugged and porous border between the two countries has long complicated efforts to control militant movement, with frequent skirmishes reported in remote mountainous areas.

Officials said Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq forms part of a broader strategy aimed at disrupting terrorist networks along the frontier and preventing cross-border infiltration.

Security forces remain on high alert in the region as operations continue, while authorities say they are monitoring developments closely amid fears of further escalation between the two neighbours.
