The notification sent to users states that Apple has detected a mercenary spyware attack targeting their iPhones and advises them to take immediate steps to protect their data and devices.
These alerts are part of Apple’s advanced security features, which the company introduced to detect powerful and sophisticated cyberattacks and warn users who may have been affected.
Apple first began issuing threat notifications in 2021. Since then, the company has sent such alerts to users in more than 150 countries on various occasions.
According to the company, these notifications are issued to inform and assist users who may have been individually targeted by mercenary spyware because of their identity, professional activities or other reasons.
Experts say mercenary spyware attacks are far more sophisticated and expensive than ordinary cyberattacks. Therefore, users who receive such an alert from Apple should take it seriously rather than treating it as a routine security warning and should immediately follow the security measures recommended by the company.
