Haripur: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced plans to send students abroad to pursue education in artificial intelligence (AI) in Europe. He said these initiatives aim to equip the next generation with skills in technology, education and innovation, which he described as key to Pakistan’s progress and prosperity.
The prime minister further announced that laptops would be distributed across KP as part of a broader program to connect students with modern technology. He emphasized that youth from all provinces will be selected on merit and trained in modern agriculture, calling young people “the heroes and builders of the nation.”
He also praised the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for their courage and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, highlighting their role in maintaining peace and stability across Pakistan.
Frontline sacrifices recognized
Addressing a laptop distribution ceremony at Haripur University, the prime minister described the residents of KP as “brave and honourable” and said the nation will always remember their contributions. He also commended Pakistan’s armed forces for their role in defending the country, citing the May 6–10 conflict with India, and said the military’s efforts earned Pakistan lasting respect.
Development projects and infrastructure
In addition, Shehbaz Sharif revealed plans to establish a Danish School in Haripur, modeled on Punjab’s system, with separate campuses for boys and girls, as well as a women’s campus. He also announced the construction of a new bridge in Haripur to improve local connectivity.
Focus on merit and unity
Responding to criticism over previous laptop distributions, the prime minister said more than 600,000 laptops had been distributed strictly on merit. Recalling his tenure as Punjab chief minister, he noted that 600 students were previously sent to China to study the Chinese language, highlighting the government’s ongoing focus on merit-based opportunities.
Shehbaz Sharif stressed that Pakistan’s development depends on the growth of all four provinces, and that unity, hard work and brotherhood are essential to national progress. He also urged students to embrace challenges, pursue modern education, and contribute to the country’s advancement.
Technical hiccup
During his speech, the microphone temporarily stopped working after an incident in the crowd, prompting the prime minister to apologize to attendees before continuing his address.
The event showcased Pakistan’s efforts to combine educational initiatives with national development, underlining the government’s commitment to empowering youth and strengthening the country’s future.
