PM Shehbaz meets President Erdogan in China

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has met Turkish President Erdogan in China today (Sunday).

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State is taking place in Tianjin where the two leaders met.

They talked briefly and reviewed the current state of Pakistan-Turkiye relations and expressed satisfaction over the growing momentum in bilateral ties.

The president offered sincere condolences over the loss of precious lives as a result of the ongoing floods across various parts of Pakistan.

He also expressed his country’s solidarity with the people of Pakistan and said that the government and people of Turkiye stood shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in this hour of need.

PM Shehbaz and the president also expressed grave concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Earlier, Pakistan and Turkiye exchanged 24 signed documents, including a joint declaration, a few agreements, and several  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Sharif announced Turkish firms would build a special economic zone in Pakistan for industrial production, despite Pakistan’s struggle to attract investment to special economic zones set up as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

PM Sharif pledged to fight terrorism jointly with Turkey.

“Afghanistan is a neighboring country, and we expect that Afghanistan will cooperate in fighting terrorism and not spreading terrorism and in that we are together,” Sharif said.
