Islamabad, Rawalpindi weather forecast: more intermittent rains expected

WEBDESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more intermittent rains across Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several parts of the country on Tuesday evening and night and Wednesday.

A seasonal low lies over central Balochistan, while strong moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal continue to enter Pakistan. A westerly wave is also affecting the region.

Under these conditions, cloudy weather with rain, wind and thundershowers is expected in the twin cities, Punjab, Sindh, northeast and south Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Heavy to very heavy falls are likely in parts of southeastern Sindh and northeastern/southern Balochistan.

Flooding and Landslide Risks

The PMD warned that torrential rains may cause flash floods in streams and nullahs of KP, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pothohar region, Dera Ghazi Khan, Koh-e-Suleman, and northeastern Balochistan. Heavy downpours could also trigger urban flooding in northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, and southeastern Sindh.

Landslides and mudslides may block roads in vulnerable areas, including KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, and Kashmir.

Islamabad’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 28°C and 30°C on Wednesday, and between 29°C and 31°C on Thursday. Rawalpindi will see temperatures between 27°C and 29°C on Wednesday, and 28°C and 30°C on Thursday.

During the last 24 hours, rain and thundershowers with scattered heavy falls were reported in Punjab, Sindh, KP, Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
