Monkeypox case reported in Pakistan

WEBDESK: A new case of monkeypox has been reported in Pakistan.

The 42-year-old patient is a resident of Attock. He arrived in Islamabad from Dubai on 15 August. At the airport, health staff noticed symptoms of monkeypox and immediately shifted him to PIMS Hospital.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), the case was officially confirmed on 18 August.

The patient has now been placed in home isolation.

Officials said there is no evidence of local transmission of monkeypox in Pakistan so far. However, some sources have claimed that local transmission may have occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A suspected case has also been reported in Karachi.

Monkeypox is a viral disease that can spread from person to person. Health authorities have advised citizens to take precautions, especially those who have recently returned from abroad.
