PESHAWAR: As the flood devastation and death toll continue to rise, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced school holidays in flood hit areas.

According to the notification issued here, the Secretary, Elementary & Secondary Education Department stated that schools across the province will remain closed from August 19, to 25 (one week.

The announcement was made as KP experiencing cloudbursts, flash flooding, landslides as a result of developing weather systems in the region.

Earlier today, authorities in Bagh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, ordered the temporary closure of all schools and educational institutions due to a high flood alert.

Official notification issued here stated that all government and private schools will be closed on August 18 and 19, 2025. The objective is to ensure that students and staff are safe against possible flooding and landslides.

Prior to this, authorities in Murree also announced the closure of all schools for two days due to heavy rainfall. According to the CEO of the District Education Authority, schools will remain closed on Tuesday, August 19, and Wednesday, August 20.

The downpour has caused rivers and canals in Murree to overflow. Water has accumulated in areas such as Kahuta GPO Chowk and Mall Road. Landslides in Galiyat have also forced the closure of the main highway connecting Murree and Abbottabad.

Officials have warned of a possible cloudburst in the region. The local administration has issued alerts for both residents and tourists, urging caution. The Deputy Commissioner of Murree advised the public to avoid rivers and canals during this period.

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next 24 to 48 hours. Citizens are encouraged to follow safety guidelines and stay updated on weather alerts.
