NDMA warns of more cloudbursts across northern Punjab, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan in the coming three to four weeks.

The authority said fresh bursts are possible within two to three weeks as well, urging at risk communities to stay alert.

NDMA warns of more cloudbursts as relief ramps up in KP and the north

NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider told that this monsoon is both more intense and more widespread.

He said the pattern seen in Gilgit-Baltistan two weeks ago was followed by similar devastation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the initial assessment, the KP floods arrived with a western weather system.

In addition, losses were aggravated by settlements in low lying areas.

Officials said Pakistan’s forecasting setup is strong by global standards, but early warnings must be matched by fast local action.

The chairman urged districts to clear waterways, mark evacuation routes, and issue targeted alerts ahead of forecast spikes.

Relief operations are underway. NDMA has handed over three trucks from the national relief stock to PDMA KP.

Through the Ministry of National Health Services, more than 800 kg of medicines have been sent to Bajaur.

In Buner, 109,515 relief items were delivered. An INGO supplied 10,000 non-food items and 15,000 food packets.

An NGO provided 2,000 tarpaulins, 330 tents, six tonnes of dry rations and six tonnes of powdered milk, plus three ambulances and three mobile health units.

Aid is being distributed in Swat, Buner, Shangla and Bajaur.

The instructions are clear: keep people away from riverbanks and nullahs during heavy rain.

Similarly, use mosque loudspeakers and SMS for fast alerts and pre-position transport for vulnerable families.

With more rain systems likely, local administrations are asked to act early so warnings translate into safe evacuations.
