NEPRA has issued strict orders to K-Electric to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has directed K-Electric to immediately refrain from unscheduled and unnecessary load shedding and issued strict orders to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to all consumers.
According to details, NEPRA has made it clear that load shedding on the basis of line losses and recovery is illegal, while the practice of cutting off electricity to any feeder on the basis of losses must be stopped immediately.
NEPRA said that consumers who regularly pay their bills cannot be punished for electricity theft or non-payment. Consumers who regularly pay their bills should not face unjustified load shedding. K-Electric has a legal responsibility to provide electricity to all consumers without discrimination.
NEPRA directed K-Electric to adopt alternative measures to address electricity theft and losses, saying that action should be taken against defaulters and those involved in electricity theft, and electricity to an entire feeder should not be shut off.
NEPRA directed K-Electric to intensify the crackdown and legal action against electricity thieves and ordered it to increase effective cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
NEPRA also ordered K-Electric to prepare a phased and time-bound plan to reduce losses.
