Sarfaraz responsible for England Test defeat, says Aqib Javed

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director of High Performance and member of the national cricket team’s selection committee Aqib Javed has held captain Babar Azam and coach Sarfaraz Ahmed responsible for the defeat in the Test series against England.

Speaking on Geo News programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, Aqib Javed, while commenting on the unusual changes made to the team, said that there are certain things that fall under the responsibility of the selectors, and they are prepared to take responsibility for the squad.

He further said that, however, during the tour, the team was not getting the kind of combination that was required. In this regard, he said, he had also spoken to captain Babar Azam and coach Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Aqib Javed further said that when the coach and captain are unable to make decisions, someone has to take action. “The world is laughing at us because we are not even able to compete,” he said.

He said these changes would also send a message to the team that they should fix their playing XI according to the plan, because the captain, coach and management also have a responsibility.

He said that there are very few players in the entire Pakistan cricket team who can be given the responsibility of leading the team.

It may be recalled that the national team lost the first two matches of the three-Test series against England and consequently lost the series with one match still remaining.

The PCB released the head coach, bowling coach and seven players from the squad midway through the England series.
