England fast bowler Brydon Carse, who is included in the squad for the Test series against Pakistan, was arrested by police but was later released after questioning.
According to British media, police arrested Brydon Carse outside a nightclub. After a video of the fast bowler in handcuffs emerged, the England and Wales Cricket Board launched an investigation into the incident.
The arrest came at a time when England’s team had defeated Derbyshire in a three-day County Championship match in Durham. The viral video also showed two other prominent players, Matthew Potts and Ben Stokes.
In a statement, the England and Wales Cricket Board said it was aware of the incident that took place in Derby the previous night and was currently investigating the matter. It added that it would provide a further update as soon as possible.
Media reports said police released Brydon Carse without charge after questioning.
It is worth noting that the incident occurred after England’s newly appointed captain Joe Root said he wanted his players to be the best role models and good human beings.
Ben Stokes had said a few weeks ago on the For the Love of Cricket podcast that there is a drinking culture in cricket.
He said, “We are now in 2026, where the sport has become more professional over the years, but cricket’s relationship with alcohol still remains. This trend starts in club cricket and gradually makes its way up to the higher levels.”
Brydon Carse is included in England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan, although he was not selected for the first Test.
