A reception was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in honour of the Google team. Pakistan and Google have signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote national digital transformation and innovation.
The MoU aims to expand cooperation in digital skills, IT exports and innovation. Google will provide 150,000 opportunities for Google Career Certificates in Pakistan in 2026, while Pakistani students will receive free access for one year to advanced AI tools, including Google AI Plus and Gemini.
The agreement also includes cooperation on establishing an AI Centre of Excellence in Islamabad, training young people according to global market requirements, and strengthening the international competitiveness of Pakistan’s mobile application and gaming industries.
A task force comprising the government, Google and relevant stakeholders will also be established to support Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of increasing Pakistan’s IT exports and digital economy to $30 billion by 2030.
The parties will further cooperate to enhance the global competitiveness of the mobile application and gaming sectors, promote digital payment systems and expand the scope of digital commerce.
The MoU has been described as an important development toward the prime minister’s vision of taking Pakistan’s IT exports and digital economy to $30 billion by 2030.
