Web Desk: Google has announced a one-year free subscription to its Gemini artificial intelligence service for students in Pakistan, opening access to advanced AI tools as the technology giant strengthens its presence in the country.
The announcement came during the launch of Google’s formal operations in Pakistan, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled the foundation plaque for the company’s Pakistan office in Islamabad.
Google Vice President Wilson L. White said the company had maintained a relationship with Pakistan for more than a decade and described the establishment of a local office as an important step in that engagement.
White also announced the free one-year Gemini subscriptions for Pakistani students, saying the initiative would help young people develop digital skills and make greater use of emerging technologies.
However, students hoping to claim the offer will have to wait for Google’s official registration process.
The company has not yet published the final eligibility requirements, verification procedure or official signup link for the newly announced offer. Reports citing officials said further details were expected later this week.
That means students should avoid entering their Google account credentials or university information into unofficial websites or links until Google publishes the formal redemption process.
Google’s official Gemini student page currently notes that an earlier student promotion ended in December 2025 and is no longer available in the region.
Although the latest offer’s conditions have not been confirmed, Google’s previous student promotion in Pakistan provides some indication of how verification could work.
The earlier programme targeted students aged 18 and above and required eligible university students to verify their student status. Google also used educational email verification for the previous offer.
Therefore, students may again be asked to prove that they are enrolled at an eligible educational institution. However, those requirements should not be treated as confirmed conditions for the new promotion until Google releases its official terms.
The announcement could provide a significant financial benefit for Pakistani students if the free access covers a paid Gemini plan for the full 12 months.
Google’s current Pakistan subscription page lists Google AI Plus at Rs1,400 per month, while higher-tier Google AI Pro is listed at Rs5,600 per month.
The exact plan included in the newly announced student offer has yet to be clarified publicly. Consequently, the value of the promotion cannot be reliably calculated until Google publishes its terms.
Meanwhile, Google’s local presence could extend beyond the student initiative.
White said Google has invested in Pakistan for more than a decade and linked the company’s goals with the government’s ambition to expand the country’s technology and IT exports. He also said Google had helped more than one million Pakistanis develop digital skills through career certificates and programmes involving schools and teachers.
The new office is therefore expected to strengthen Google’s engagement with local businesses, technology workers and the country’s growing digital economy.
For students, however, the immediate focus will be on the promised free Gemini access.
Until Google releases the official registration link and eligibility rules, students should rely only on Google’s official channels and avoid unofficial claims about how to activate the subscription.
