Web Desk: Schools across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are set to reopen on Aug. 17 after the provincial education authorities dismissed a widely circulated notification claiming that summer vacations had been extended until Aug. 31.
The fake document, which spread rapidly across social media, cited severe rainfall and a heat wave as reasons for extending the school holidays. It further claimed that educational institutions would resume classes on Sept. 1, 2026.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Department rejected the purported notification and urged students, parents and school administrators not to rely on documents circulating through social media.
The department also asked the public to refrain from sharing or forwarding the disputed document, saying it was not an official government notification.
The fake notice reportedly carried the department’s name, official-style formatting and other details designed to make it appear authentic.
According to the education department’s existing schedule, summer holidays for middle, high and higher secondary schools in the province are ending on Aug. 16.
Consequently, schools are expected to resume normal operations from Monday, Aug. 17.
The clarification is expected to ease uncertainty among families who had been unsure whether schools would remain closed for an additional two weeks.
The purported extension notice triggered confusion among students, parents and educational institutions as it circulated online.
The document claimed that extreme weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and a heat wave, had prompted the government to extend the summer break. However, authorities said the notification did not originate from the education department.
Officials have therefore advised the public to verify education-related announcements through official government channels before acting on information shared online.
For now, there is no confirmed extension of the summer vacation to Aug. 31, and KP schools are scheduled to reopen on Aug. 17.
