Mirwaiz placed under house arrest

APHC senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was prevented from offering Friday prayers and sermon by Indian forces in response to his criticism of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) during his previous Friday sermon.

According to sources, Indian forces in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) once again placed APHC senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest on Friday. They prevented him from proceeding to the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar to offer Juma prayers and address the congregation. Sources revealed that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest after he criticised the JAAC’s actions during his previous Friday sermon.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, reacting to the restriction in a post on X, said: “Placed under house arrest yet again, on the eve of the blessed month of Rabi-ul-Awwal. The repeated and arbitrary restrictions imposed on Fridays are highly condemnable.” Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq extended greetings to Muslims across occupied Jammu and Kashmir and around the world on the arrival of the blessed month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.

He said the month provides an important opportunity to strengthen one’s connection with the Seerah and Sunnah of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and to reflect on his teachings of faith, mercy, compassion, justice, good character, and service to humanity.
