Thirty new vehicles have been provided to 27 police stations in the federal capital after 14 years, while the recruitment of 9,000 new personnel has also been announced.
According to media reports, a ceremony was held to hand over the new vehicles to Islamabad Police. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry handed over the keys of the vehicles to Islamabad Police.
Mohsin Naqvi said modern policing was impossible with unserviceable vehicles. He said the required results could only be achieved by meeting police needs according to the demands of the time. He added that the new vehicles would improve police response time, while all necessary resources were being provided to ensure public safety and security.
Naqvi further said that providing resources would enable police to perform their duties more effectively. Work is also underway to construct and upgrade all police stations in Islamabad, which will be completed soon. He said the use of electric vehicles was part of an environmentally friendly policy and would significantly reduce fuel costs.
Minister of State Talal Chaudhry said the interior minister had handed over new vehicles to all 27 Islamabad police stations. He said Islamabad Police had been using vehicles that were more than 14 years old, while logistics were also being provided to officers and houses were being constructed for them.
He added that work on the construction and rehabilitation of all 27 police stations was also underway and would be completed this year. Talal Chaudhry said 9,000 new personnel were being recruited to address the shortage of manpower, with merit being ensured throughout the recruitment process.
He said these measures would transform Islamabad Police into a model police force for the entire country. The changes, he added, had been introduced over the past two years. The federal interior secretary, Inspector General of Islamabad Police and senior police officers also attended the ceremony.
