KP CM announces march to Islamabad

Differences within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have intensified over the call for a long march toward Islamabad on September 27.

Overseas PTI leaders have alleged that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi called for the September 27 long march instead of mid-August as part of a secret deal.

Speaking on Geo News programme Capital Talk, Sohail Afridi rejected the allegations made by party leaders as baseless.

Regarding former special assistant in the PTI government, Shahbaz Gill, who made the allegations, he said that Gill would soon apologize to him.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister further said that he would convince the PTI founder’s sister, Aleema Khan, regarding the long march.

It is worth noting that earlier speaking to the media, Aleema Khan said she was unable to understand the rationale behind the call, adding that she had not even watched the related public gathering.

Commenting on the announcement, she said, “These people are making the PTI founder wait,” expressing dissatisfaction with the move.

Aleema Khan further stated that she did not understand the purpose of the proposed long march and questioned the timing of the announcement.

Earlier, Sohail Afridi had said during a media talk alongside Salman Akram Raja that there was no option other than resistance against the government.

On the occasion, PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja said that nothing was more important at present than the founder’s health, adding that the movement they were about to launch would not stop.

Salman Akram Raja also expressed anger at party members for not appearing before the Islamabad High Court and said that the names of those who did not attend would be made public. He added that they also knew who had failed to appear on August 5.

In view of the possible protest by PTI, prisoner vans arrived outside the Islamabad High Court, while contingents of Punjab and Islamabad police were also deployed.
