Why is sending children to school without breakfast harmful?

Breakfast not only supports children’s physical growth but also improves their mental abilities and psychological well-being.

Health experts say that starting the day with a healthy breakfast is essential not only for physical energy but also plays an important role in children’s mental development and academic performance. Despite this, many children go to school in the morning without having breakfast, which can later lead to various physical and psychological problems.

According to experts, skipping breakfast is a common habit among school-going children. Some children refuse to eat breakfast, while others leave home without eating anything because they are in a hurry. This routine can negatively affect their concentration, mood and overall health.

According to Healthline, it is not only important what children eat for breakfast, but also where and in what environment they have it. Research has found that completely skipping breakfast or regularly having breakfast outside the home instead of at home may increase the likelihood of psychological and behavioral problems among adolescents.

Experts say that children who go to school without breakfast often experience sluggishness, tiredness and irritability. In addition, their concentration in class decreases, which can affect their studies and academic performance.

In this regard, the Spanish National Health Survey collected information from the parents and guardians of 3,772 children aged 4 to 14. The study included questions about breakfast habits as well as the children’s psychological health, self-esteem, mood and anxiety.

According to the findings, having breakfast outside the home can be almost as harmful for children as skipping breakfast altogether. Experts say that a balanced breakfast prepared at home improves children’s physical growth as well as their mental abilities and psychological well-being.

Health experts say that a nutritious breakfast improves children’s memory, concentration and ability to learn, with positive effects also becoming evident in their performance at school.

Experts advise parents that if mornings are particularly busy, breakfast can be prepared the night before. However, children should not be sent to school without breakfast so that they can take part in their educational activities throughout the day with sufficient energy and a better mental state.
