Pakistani veteran actor Firdous Jamal has clarified his earlier remarks about Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, saying he never intended to criticize the Indian actor.
In a recent interview with a YouTube channel, Firdous Jamal said he is a fan of Shah Rukh Khan, describing him as an excellent actor and a continuation of the artistic tradition of legendary actor Dilip Kumar.
He explained that every actor has their own artistic and intellectual school of thought. While he considers himself influenced by Dilip Kumar, Muhammad Ali, Agha Talish and Alauddin, he said actors such as Shah Rukh Khan belong to a different artistic tradition and are influenced by different figures.
Firdous Jamal also spoke about the process of learning in acting, saying that every artist begins by learning from others and that imitation and learning are natural parts of an actor’s development.
Addressing actress Mahira Khan, he said she was not his issue and should not be dragged into the matter, adding that she is neither his wife nor a member of his family and that it is perfectly fine for people to like her.
Firdous Jamal had previously criticized Shah Rukh Khan’s acting, saying that he was not as strong an actor as his star status suggested. He had also questioned comparisons between Shah Rukh Khan and Dilip Kumar and criticized the Bollywood star’s pronunciation, delivery and physical appearance.
He has now clarified that, in his view, Shah Rukh Khan is a much bigger star than he is an actor.
