The Sindh government has announced a public holiday across the province on the occasion of the annual urs of renowned Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai on Wednesday, July 29.
According to an official notification issued on Monday by the Sindh Information Department, the holiday would apply to all provincial government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils working under the administrative control of the Sindh government.
However, the govt also clarified that the holiday would not apply to essential services, which would continue to operate as usual.
The notification of public holiday was made public by the Sindh Information Department on the social media platform X.
The three-day annual urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is held every year from Safar 14 at his final resting place in Bhit Shah.
This annual special event linked to Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is one of Sindh’s most significant religious and cultural events and is attended by govt officials, attracting thousands of devotees from across Pakistan.
Religious gatherings, traditional music performances, and cultural ceremonies are held at the saint’s shrine in Bhit Shah to commemorate the religious and literary services of the Sofi saint for the reformation of the contemporary society.
