Web Desk: A court has dismissed a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking legal action against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and senior government officials over the events surrounding the party’s Nov. 26 protest.
The decision provided legal relief to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Atta Tarar and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, after the court rejected the plea submitted by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka dismissed the petition during a hearing, ruling against PTI’s request for action against the government leaders.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and lawyer Khurram Latif Khosa appeared before the court to represent the party’s position during the proceedings.
The petition was related to PTI’s protest held on Nov. 26, during which the party had accused government authorities of taking action against its supporters.
PTI had filed the petition seeking proceedings against the prime minister, interior minister, defence minister and information minister over their alleged involvement in matters related to the Nov. 26 protest.
However, after reviewing the case, the court dismissed the petition, giving relief to the government officials named in the application.
The court’s decision comes amid ongoing political tensions between PTI and the federal government over protests, arrests and legal cases involving party members.
PTI has repeatedly raised concerns over actions taken against its workers, while government officials have defended their measures as necessary for maintaining law and order.
The latest court ruling adds another development to the continuing political and legal disputes between the opposition party and the ruling coalition.
