PDMA warns of possible flooding in Punjab rivers


Lahore: A second powerful spell of monsoon rains is expected to begin in Punjab from 19 July, prompting authorities to issue a weather alert.


The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for 19–23 July, warning of strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall across most districts. All relevant departments and district administrations have been directed to remain on high alert due to the risk of urban flooding in major cities and rising water levels in seasonal streams.


According to the PDMA, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, and Gujranwala face a risk of urban flooding, while flood alerts have also been issued for Nullah Lai, Murree, the Galiyat region, and seasonal streams.


Heavy rainfall is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, and Chiniot.


Rain is also forecast in Noorpur Thal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan, and Rajanpur from 20 to 24 July.


The advisory urges citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from electric poles and low-lying areas, remain indoors during thunderstorms and strong winds, and contact the PDMA helpline 1129 in case of an emergency.
