A string of disappointing defeats has triggered a major review within India’s T20 cricket setup, with senior officials reportedly considering significant changes to the team’s coaching staff.
According to a private news channel, India suffered consecutive series defeats against South Africa, Ireland, and England, prompting concern within the country’s cricket administration.
Indian media reported that a key member of head coach Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff is likely to join an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, while another support staff member may also leave. Reports also suggest that differences between the selectors and the coaching staff have further complicated the situation.
Following the conclusion of the series against England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to hold a review meeting, where major changes to the coaching setup could be discussed.
According to Indian media, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has already confirmed that the board will conduct a comprehensive review of the team’s recent performances to identify the reasons behind the successive defeats.
Reports further suggest that a major reshuffle within the coaching staff is under consideration, with one of Gautam Gambhir’s senior assistants potentially facing removal.
Indian media also claim that the atmosphere in the team’s dressing room has become tense following the continuous losses. The reports say cracks began to emerge after India’s Test series whitewash against South Africa, and that the dressing room environment has remained unsettled for several months.
India was whitewashed 2-0 by South Africa in a two-match Test series, followed by a 2-0 T20 series defeat to Ireland. The team has also already lost the five-match T20 series against England after falling 3-0 behind in the contest.
