Web Desk: The Punjab government has launched an all-electric public bus service connecting Murree and Rawalpindi, marking another step in its drive to modernise public transport and promote environmentally friendly mobility.

The Murree-Rawalpindi Electric Bus Service began operations on Thursday, offering commuters a cleaner, safer and more comfortable travel option between the hill station and the garrison city.

The launch follows the provincial government’s handover of more than 15 electric buses to the Murree district administration in recent weeks as part of a broader initiative to expand sustainable transportation across the region.

Officials said the service aims to improve public transport while reducing reliance on conventional fuel-powered vehicles.

Earlier, Murree Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi said the project would help curb air pollution and carbon emissions, supporting efforts to preserve Murree’s fragile ecosystem as tourist arrivals continue to grow.

The new service is expected to benefit both local residents and the millions of domestic and international tourists who visit Murree each year.

According to officials, the buses feature modern passenger amenities designed to enhance comfort and convenience. The project also includes dedicated electric charging stations to ensure uninterrupted operations along the route.

Meanwhile, provincial authorities plan to deploy the electric buses on major roads and key tourist destinations across Murree, extending the network beyond the Rawalpindi route.

The expansion forms part of Punjab’s wider strategy to encourage clean mobility, lower transport-related emissions and accelerate the adoption of electric public transport across the province.
