The Sindh government has decided to launch special exclusive bus routes under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and has also approved a new Larkana–Qambar People’s Bus Service route.
The decisions were made during a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Trans Karachi CEO Zubair Channa, and other relevant officials.
The meeting reviewed ongoing and proposed public transport projects across the province, discussing their operations, progress, and future strategy. Officials also reviewed the performance of double-decker buses, EV taxis, EV buses, the People’s Bus Service, Green Line, and Orange Line.
Speaking at the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Sindh government plans to introduce exclusive bus routes under the PPP model, with different routes to be operated by private investors and companies.
He said these routes would use modern, air-conditioned electric (EV) buses and would be awarded to private investors through auctions or other competitive bidding processes. The aim is to provide safe, modern, and high-quality public transport while encouraging private investment.
Memon also directed officials to launch the new Larkana–Qambar People’s Bus Service route as soon as possible, saying it would benefit thousands of commuters and improve connectivity and trade between the two districts.
He instructed the relevant authorities to complete all administrative and operational arrangements for the new route without delay.
Officials informed the meeting that consultations with stakeholders on the EV taxi project are ongoing and that the project is progressing rapidly.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said Karachi would soon receive an environmentally friendly EV taxi service, providing citizens with modern, comfortable, and high-quality transport while helping reduce air pollution.
He also said more double-decker buses would soon arrive in Karachi and directed officials to finalize their new routes and operational plans so the service could begin quickly.
He noted that daily ridership on the Green Line BRT has increased from 50,000 to 81,000, while Orange Line ridership has risen from 1,800 to 9,800, describing it as a sign of growing public confidence.
Memon added that the women-only Pink Bus service on the Green Line BRT has been well received and has provided women with a safe and convenient travel option.
He also took notice of the misuse of Pink Scooties, directing that men must immediately stop riding them or face legal action.
He instructed the relevant authorities to seize any Pink Scooties found being used by men and to take action against anyone changing their color or wrapping them to conceal their identity.
Concluding the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to completing all ongoing and planned transport projects on time to provide the public with modern, safe, environmentally friendly, and high-quality transport services.
