Web Desk: Punjab Traffic Police launched a province-wide crackdown on motorists who have failed to pay electronic traffic fines, introducing a zero-tolerance policy aimed at improving compliance with traffic laws and road safety.
The enforcement campaign began on Wednesday, with authorities warning that drivers who ignore outstanding e-challans beyond the prescribed payment period will face legal action without exception.
Punjab Traffic Police Deputy Inspector General Muhammad Waqas Nazir said authorities are strengthening the electronic challan system to ensure more effective enforcement of traffic regulations across the province.
As part of the initiative, all field officers have been equipped with the Traffic One mobile application, allowing them to instantly verify whether a vehicle or motorcycle has unpaid e-challans during roadside inspections.
Police said the application enables officers to access details of outstanding fines and payment status in real time, making enforcement more efficient and transparent.
Traffic police said vehicles or motorcycles found with unpaid e-challans during inspections may be impounded if the owner has failed to clear the fines within the stipulated period. Authorities added that further legal action could also be taken in accordance with the law.
Officials urged motorists to regularly check the status of their e-challans and settle outstanding payments promptly. Drivers can verify pending fines by entering their vehicle registration number on the Punjab Safe Cities online portal.
Nazir said the e-challan system is designed not only to collect fines but also to encourage compliance with traffic laws and reduce road accidents.
He said authorities would continue taking action against violations including speeding, running red lights, illegal parking, driving the wrong way on one-way roads and breaching lane discipline.
Meanwhile, Punjab Traffic Police said it is expanding the use of modern technology to improve traffic management and create a safer, more organised transport environment across the province.
Officials added that special inspection drives will continue throughout Punjab under the campaign, with no concessions for motorists who fail to pay outstanding electronic traffic fines.
