Citizens troubled by the intense heat and humidity have received welcome news as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of rain in different parts of the country, which is expected to lower temperatures and make the weather more pleasant.
According to the PMD, a new westerly weather system will enter the upper parts of the country on Tuesday evening, while moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea will continue to affect Punjab and other central and eastern regions. Monsoon activity is expected to intensify further from July 1, while rainfall is forecast in some areas from tonight.
According to the forecast, the new spell of rain will continue until July 6. During this period, districts in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Neelum, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, Sudhnoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur, are expected to receive rain with thunderstorms and strong winds, with heavy downpours likely at isolated places.
In Punjab, thunderstorms and rain are expected in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Murree, Galiyat, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad and other upper and central districts, with heavy rainfall possible at some locations.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and windstorms are also expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Charsadda, Kurram, Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan, along with several other districts.
The PMD has warned that heavy rainfall may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods in hill torrents, landslides in mountainous regions and damage to weak structures due to strong winds. Citizens and relevant authorities have been advised to take precautionary measures.
The new spell of rain is expected to bring significant relief from the ongoing heat and humidity, making the weather pleasant across most parts of the country.
