Geo News has released a public clarification and apology over the controversial content aired during its 10th Muharram special transmission, “Safar-e-Ishq,” acknowledging that the broadcast included material that was inconsistent with the channel’s editorial standards and long-standing commitment to respecting the religious beliefs and sentiments of the Muslim Ummah.

In its statement, the broadcaster stated the clarification was not intended to justify or deny the incident but to openly acknowledge the editorial lapse, explain the steps taken in response, and reassure viewers that every effort would be made to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in future.

The apology stated “What happened was wrong. We do not seek to defend, minimise, or rationalise it. We sincerely feel resentful over the hurt religious feelings and emotions of the viewers.

The public apology letter further stated that the disputed content neither represented its editorial position nor reflected its policy of exercising caution and sensitivity on matters of religion.

Geo News also added that the footage had been removed from all digital platforms, an internal inquiry had been initiated, and disciplinary action had been enforced against those responsible in this regard.

The broadcaster also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening editorial oversight and maintaining the trust of its audience by upholding the highest professional and ethical standards in its transmissions ahead.
