Diplomatic sources have confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has cancelled his visit to Switzerland. The Prime Minister was scheduled to depart for Switzerland today.
According to diplomatic sources, the visit was called off after the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, stating that the diplomatic objective of the trip has already been achieved. Officials said the agreement is now fully operational, and Pakistan will continue to play a central role in its implementation and future phases. Further technical-level work will now proceed at an accelerated pace following the agreement.
Sources further stated that the Islamabad MoU has already come into effect, and implementation has begun. After this high-level political breakthrough, the need for a formal visit has diminished. Technical negotiations will now be conducted separately, covering various components of the agreement.
Diplomatic officials said the upcoming technical talks will focus on sanctions relief, maritime security, nuclear issues, verification mechanisms, implementation timelines, and regional assurances.
According to sources, the initial round of negotiations under the agreement will be held tomorrow at the Bürgenstock Resort.
It is worth noting that U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have already signed the agreement, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also signing in his capacity as mediator. Pakistan has formally endorsed the agreement as a facilitator.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the agreement will serve as a foundation for peace and stability in the region. He also praised the efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, saying his tireless contribution was crucial in advancing the diplomatic breakthrough.
The Prime Minister congratulated President Donald Trump, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mujtaba Khamenei, and the Iranian President on the agreement.
