Actor Namra Shahid has spoken openly about what she calls as the narrow career span often available to women in television, saying female actors often face a turning point in their mid-to-late 30s.

“You reach your mid-30s or late-30s. By that time, you are either a renowned lead actor or you just end up doing side characters,” she said in a recent interview, refering to what she sees as limited opportunities for women to continue securing central roles later in their careers.

Recalling her own ten-year journey in the showbiz, Namra noted that success in television is not always gained by talent alone. While some actors gradually build their careers over time, others, she said, appear to rise to lead status more abruptly.

“I have no idea how people suddenly enter from nowhere and acquire the role of main lead in a serial,” she commented. “I’ve been working for ten years, so for me, it has been a very long and tiresome journey.”

She also commented on the gap between a drama’s popularity and an actor’s individual graph, explaining that being part of a successful project does not always translate into meaningful visibility for every performer.

According to Namra, retaining a long-term career needs more than just strong performances, stressing the need for proper management, strategy, and a strong support system behind the scenes.

“Obviously, you need a professional and competent team to keep a business move on,” she said. “If the cloth isn’t even being made, what will I do with that factory?”

Despite the challenges, Namra said she welcomes critique and considers audience feedback an important factor behind an actor’s growth in her career.

“I actually like reviews. I didn’t take it on heart; I took to the positive side of these reviews,” she said. “It motivates us to put in that extra effort so that if someone gives a great performance, people absolutely must know the actor’s name.”

Her remarks pinpointed the realities of acquiring a career in television and challenges faced by female actors.
