Web Desk: Pakistan is expected to experience predominantly hot and dry weather in the coming days, although isolated rainfall may provide limited relief in parts of the north and northeast, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The weather agency said temperatures would remain elevated across much of the country, particularly in the plains, where heatwave conditions are expected to persist. Authorities urged residents to minimize exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Despite the prevailing dry conditions, the PMD forecast light rain at isolated locations in the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Chitral and Dir.

In addition, scattered rainfall is expected in parts of the Pothohar region, as well as in Kashmir and Punjab, offering temporary respite from the ongoing heat.

Meanwhile, weather conditions in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to remain comparatively pleasant.

In Peshawar and most plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hot and dry weather is forecast to dominate throughout the day.

The provincial capital could see temperatures climb to around 39 degrees Celsius, while humidity levels have been recorded at 48%.

As a result, heat stress may increase during afternoon hours, particularly for outdoor workers and vulnerable groups.

Further south, the PMD said Karachi is expected to endure hot and humid conditions through the weekend, with elevated temperatures and high moisture levels contributing to uncomfortable weather.

Recent observations showed daytime temperatures ranging between 36°C and 38°C, while overnight temperatures hovered near 30°C.

Humidity levels remained high, reaching approximately 75% in the morning before easing to between 60% and 70% later in the day. Westerly and southwesterly winds continued to influence conditions across the coastal city.

Although Karachi is likely to avoid the extreme temperatures affecting inland districts because of its proximity to the Arabian Sea, residents can still expect oppressive heat and humidity.

At the same time, meteorologists warned of intense heatwave conditions across Upper Sindh, where temperatures could reach dangerous levels.

Districts including Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Larkana are forecast to record maximum temperatures between 47°C and 50°C.

Elsewhere in Sindh, including Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad and Matiari, temperatures may range from 44°C to 47°C.

The PMD cautioned that the extreme heat could pose serious health risks, particularly for children, the elderly and people with pre-existing medical conditions.

Authorities have advised residents in affected areas to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activity and follow official safety guidelines as the heatwave continues.
