Pakistan’s aviation sector is set to witness a new milestone in regional connectivity as South Air Pak launches flights from Karachi to Gwadar, Turbat, and Quetta.
South Air Pak is planning to launch its first proving flight operations on May 25th, ahead of regular commercial operations expected in early June, connecting Karachi with key cities across Balochistan — including Gwadar, Turbat, and Quetta.
According to the airline, the first proving flight is scheduled for May 25th on the Karachi–Gwadar–Karachi route will pave way for regular flights. The test flight is an important operational prerequisite before the launch of passenger services.
The airline says commercial flights are likely to begin during the first week of June.
To boost the flights expansion, South Air Pak has reportedly made an addition of nearly two ATR turboprop aircraft through wet lease arrangements from abroad.
ATR aircraft are generally operated for short regional routes because of their fuel consumption efficiency and ability and are best suited for small local airports.
The move is being viewed as a good omen toward improving air connectivity within Balochistan, especially for passengers who travel by air between Karachi and the province’s major urban and coastal centers.
This awe-inspiring step is widely lauded and considered a remarkable air access to Gwadar which could support commercial activity linked to the deep-sea port, while improved links to Turbat and Quetta may help business travelers, students, tourists, and residents seeking faster travel options.
Pakistan’s domestic aviation market has recently seen growing interest in regional routes, especially in underserved areas where road travel can take many hours.
With spade work underway on the proving flight, aviation watchers will be looking closely at regulatory approvals, flight schedules, and ticket availability in the coming weeks.
After its launch according to the stipulated schedule, South Air Pak would become one of the few rare carriers offering expanded regional connectivity between Karachi and multiple destinations in Balochistan.
