Web Desk: Pakistan has eased market closing restrictions in the federal capital, allowing shops, bazaars and shopping malls to remain open beyond the previously enforced 8 p.m. deadline until the end of May, according to an official notification.

The decision, approved on the direction of the prime minister, takes immediate effect and temporarily suspends an earlier order issued in April under austerity measures, the Cabinet Division said.

Under the revised arrangement, all commercial outlets in Islamabad Capital Territory, including retail stores and shopping centres, will remain exempt from the 8 pm closure rule until May 31.

Authorities said the relaxation also applies to bakeries, tandoors, restaurants, grocery stores, food outlets and other shops dealing in daily-use commodities.

In addition, officials confirmed that markets in the capital will continue normal operations throughout the week without timing restrictions during the exemption period.

The government described the move as an effort to facilitate the public, particularly amid increased commercial activity.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has already introduced similar temporary relief measures in connection with Eid-ul-Adha, extending relaxed closing hours until June 1.

Officials noted that the Islamabad decision represents a partial modification of the earlier austerity-driven notification, which had imposed earlier shutdown timings on commercial activities.

The latest revision comes as authorities continue to balance energy-saving measures with public convenience and economic activity.
