Web Desk: Provincial governments across Pakistan have begun easing restrictions on commercial activity, extending business hours and rolling back earlier curbs as authorities move to support economic activity and respond to pressure from traders.
In Balochistan, authorities announced the removal of lockdown-style restrictions on business operations until June 1, allowing markets and commercial centres to function under regular schedules.
A notification issued by the provincial home department confirmed that shops, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels and other commercial outlets will now operate without earlier early-closing requirements.
Previously imposed limits requiring businesses to shut by evening hours have been withdrawn. Officials said the decision aims to improve economic conditions and provide relief to traders affected by reduced operating time.
However, authorities clarified that certain administrative and security-related measures will remain unchanged, and previously issued directives on those matters will continue to be enforced.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government also removed fixed closing-hour restrictions for markets and commercial establishments, allowing businesses to operate without mandatory shutdown times.
Provincial information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the decision covers shops, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, wedding halls and marquees, adding that the move is intended to support economic activity and ease conditions for both businesses and consumers.
A separate notification from the Sindh chief secretary confirmed that earlier orders enforcing closure times have been formally withdrawn, effectively ending the 9pm shutdown requirement across the province.
Officials said the step reflects efforts to balance economic recovery with public convenience as commercial activity gradually normalises.
In Punjab, the district administration in Lahore also relaxed business operating hours, allowing markets and commercial centres to remain open later in the evening until June 1.
According to the deputy commissioner, the revised policy extends closing time to 10pm, replacing the earlier 8pm deadline.
Authorities said the adjustment is intended to support traders and improve overall economic activity in the city, particularly in high-demand retail periods.
Trader groups in Lahore had previously opposed earlier restrictions, arguing that reduced operating hours were affecting sales and disrupting business during the Eid shopping season. Some associations had also warned of protests and possible shutdown strikes if curbs were not eased.
Across the provinces, officials have framed the relaxation measures as part of broader efforts to restore normal commercial activity and support the business community.
While restrictions are being eased, authorities said regulatory and security frameworks will continue to remain in place where required, as governments seek to balance economic recovery with operational oversight.
