Web Desk: Digital activists and social media users in Pakistan on Sunday raised concerns over an online account linked to coordinated disinformation efforts, warning followers against what they described as a “Trojan” social media presence posing as pro-Pakistan.

The account, identified online as “@Ufaq_RM,” came under scrutiny after several users claimed it promoted narratives designed to influence political discourse while presenting itself as a patriotic Pakistani voice.

Social media posts circulating widely alleged that the account was operated from outside Pakistan and accused it of amplifying divisive content and glorifying extremist narratives. Users further claimed that older posts and activity patterns suggested links to Indian-origin digital networks, although no independent verification was immediately available.

Calls to unfollow the account gained momentum across several platforms, with users warning others to remain cautious of online profiles that allegedly disguise propaganda as political criticism or patriotism.

Growing concerns over digital influence campaigns have intensified in South Asia in recent years, particularly during periods of political tension and heightened regional rivalry. Anonymous or pseudonymous social media accounts are increasingly being used to shape public opinion, spread misinformation and fuel polarisation.

Meanwhile, cybersecurity experts urged users to verify sources carefully and avoid sharing unconfirmed allegations online. They also emphasized the importance of digital literacy and responsible engagement on social media platforms.

Neither the account holder nor relevant authorities publicly responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.
