Spanish leading newspaper El País’ has acknowledged the mediation efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, calling him the strongest man of Islamabad, who enjoys great trust with US and Iranian leaders both.
The article highlights that he maintains ties with Tehran and Iran FM received him himself on the airport during former’s visit to Tehran while Trump calls him “my favourite field marshal”.
Besides this the newspaper admits that the US president announced a new extension on social media on 21 April, shortly before the ceasefire between the United States and Iran was due to expire. On this occasion president Trump categorically announced that US suspended its attack on Iran on the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and that these two figures saved the world from the destructions of war.
Asim Munir has actively engaged in diplomacy with both the United States and Iran, including hosting U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance in Islamabad and maintaining communication with Iranian leadership.
Apar from this the newspaper throws light on Field Marshal’s professional. It mentions that Asim Munir has served in key intelligence positions within the military and took charge as Chief of Army Staff in 2022. He was later promoted to the rank of Field Marshal following heightened tensions with India.
His growing global recognition has been further strengthened through direct engagements with U.S. leadership, including meetings at the White House.
The report also highlights Pakistan’s broader strategic interests, including maintaining stability along its border with Iran and preserving long-term diplomatic and cultural ties.
During a recent visit to Tehran, Asim Munir met with senior Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and emphasized the need to continue dialogue for regional peace.
